May the 4th be with you!
So this is basically a test run of test runs. I have been putting off blogging, online journaling, vlogging, anything on the web that is more than 140 characters. I thought about today what I should write about first and considered the whole, " Hey y'all. This is my first time. Hope ya like," post. I could go into a talk about who I am or what I do, but I feel that will cause my readers ( I believe I already have a massive following) to not stick around for more. Instead I am just going to write what is on my mind today. Without research or a steady outline
And away...We...Go!
In honor of May the 4th, I got into a brief and almost hostile talk at work about Star Wars. I was grinding away at my desk when it hit me. What did the Empire do to deserve all the hate upon them? Yes, they did obliterate Alderaan, but Alderaan was straight frontin. The place was filled with rebel supporters not to mention some Mr. Organa, a man that conspired in taking Anakin's daughter.
(Oh btw, spoilers will be constant in this)
What caused them to rebel, was the rent too damn high on Cloud City? The Empire was led by an horrible man, but it never spoke of oppression, slavery or anything that has warranted overthrowing of governments in the past. If you were being invaded by some terrible alien entity like say, The Geth from
Mass Effect, who would you want to protect you, Grand Moff "I could smile, but that would take the fun out of it" Tarkin or
THIS GUY?
We saw Cloud City looking splendid, the second moon of Endor was beautiful and the Ewoks were still banging away on the drums of happy wood rock before Han and Leia recruited them for suicide missions/ terrorist attacks. What is to say that there were not other happening places far, far away? Tatooine was a lone exception to all this beauty and the Empire tried to police it but couldn't save them from the evil. Tatooine reminds me of Baltimore in The Wire (My apologies to IRL Baltimore). The place had no proper policing, was ran by gangs. Everyone loves Omar, right? That's Han. The Jawas were essentially Bubs. Heck, Proposition Joe and Jabba could have been other worldly cousins.
The Empire was forced into being the bad guy, because it had to protect itself. The Rebels, were....hipsters. What true characters are there to like from the Rebels? Han a crook who cannot pay his debts? Chewie who is bonded to Han because of his culture? He is a victim of circumstance and must forever follow Han around. Leia, the spoiled princess that is supposed to lead everybody, but you never see lead? Lando, a guy that should never have been in charge of Cloud City in the first place? The only truly likable person on the rebel side...Ackbar, the grizzled career military man whose lone fault is that he loves his job too much.
And what is wrong with the people of the Empire? Vader misses his kids, Palpatine is ashamed of his looks because Mace Windu went "Don't taze me bro," and shot the lightning back in his face, and Tarkin is like Ackbar , he just loves serving the Empire and the teaching the soldiers how to be men.
Finally what has the Rebellion done for you? They got a whole planet destroyed, caused the Ewoks to fight a fight they really didn't need to resulting in that really sad scene. Jabba was killed, despite all the money he brought into Mos Eisley through Pod Racing.
The Empire was responsible for saving Cloud City from Lando's horrible management, created a planet size movable base that gave so many people jobs, oh and they had clones.
There are plenty of points that can be said for the Rebels and how truly great they are, but I have to go and feed the cat.
Thank y'all for checking this out, I hope to bring better journals and thoughts in the future. Have a great day and May the 4th be with you.
